San Carlos’ Time-Honored Tradition, The Chickens’ Ball, In Search of Clucking Talents “Auditions for 2020 Are Open for the Biennial Spectacle That Helps Fund Local Schools” San Carlos, CA—October 10, 2019

The San Carlos Chickens’ Ball (CB 2020) is looking for talents of cast and crew for show dates: March 13th, thru 15th, and March 20th thru 22nd, 2020, for the theme, “The Night They Invented Champagne”. Upcoming auditions are on Oct. 24 at 6 pm, and Oct. 26 at 10 am, respectively held at Heather Elementary School, 2757 Melendy Drive, San Carlos. Musicians, actors, singers, dancers, extras, and beyond are invited to perform! To join, go to bit.ly/ChickensAuditions. All people, high school-aged and up, are invited to participate, regardless of their level of talent. All proceeds go directly to support San Carlos students for Cultural Education.

The Chickens’ Ball raises thousands of dollars for San Carlos school children, but is not a typical PTA fund-raising-event. Held every two years at the Mustang Hall of Central Middle School in San Carlos, Chickens’ Ball is where original melodrama and variety skits written and submitted by community organizations, are based on the history of the Barbary Coast Era, circa 1889 to 1918. The vaudeville features song and dance to contemporary music. Sponsorship form can be found on the CB website, under “Sponsors” http://chickensball.org/sponsors/

“The Biennial Chickens’ Ball generates not only monies in support of the visual and performing arts for our local public schools, but also brings our communities closer together,” says Mona Klein, Chickens’ Ball General Chair. The idea, which dates as far back in the early 1900s, was brought back in 1939 by a teacher at Central School, Howard Demeke, who was looking to find other ways to fund the public schools, “to raise milk money; early in the war years,” he once said. “The opportunity that CB provides for individuals to express their creativity and to create original works through skit writing, songwriting, writing limericks, set design, costume design and construction, etc., is golden,” says Karen Althoff, CB Production Chair.

ABOUT CHICKENS’ BALL: The Chickens’ Ball is a biennial variety show presented by the San Carlos PTAs in collaboration with the San Carlos community.
